Position Description

The YMCA of Greater Toledo is Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan’s largest not for profit agency, serving 50,000 members annually. The YMCA of Greater Toledo is a thriving, association with 10 branches; the Francis Family YMCA serves the Bedford and Temperance, Michigan area with great partnerships and community support. The Francis Family YMCA opened in 2005, in partnerships with Bedford Public Schools and ProMedica (a local health care provider which operates a physical rehab facility in the Francis Family YMCA).  The branch has a current operating budget of $1.4 million. The Bedford and Temperance community is characterized by good people, affordable housing prices and great schools. The Association management team is seeking an individual who possess vision, strategic planning, collaboration and accountability.

Under the guidance of the District Vice President, the Executive Director is responsible for administering the total operation of the Francis Family Branch including membership, marketing, programs, facilities, volunteer and staff development, financial development, community relations and collaborations with community organizations.

We are seeking a high-energy, dedicated, well-organized, self-starter with proven successful experience with staff supervision, fundraising, volunteer and community relations, board and volunteer development, and financial management.

The candidate must be responsive to change, possess practical oral and written communication skills, think strategically and creatively, and have superior problem-solving abilities. Enthusiasm for collaboration and working as part of a team is essential. The Executive Director must understand the complexity of the community and the significance of collaboration and partnership with public and private resources. In addition, the Executive Director must strengthen a culture of inclusion with a commitment to championing social equity initiatives.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in human services, social services, business, or equivalent degree.
  2. 3 years or more experience in a management role with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff.
  3. YMCA Multi-Team/Branch Leader certification or Organizational Leader certification preferred.
  4. Desire and capacity to achieve positive results in the area of financial development, board & volunteer development, program development and administration, staff supervision, and fiscal management.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Strong organizational skills, self-starter with initiative to work independently.
  7. Must have the capacity to develop strong, positive relationships with branch volunteers, business and civic leaders and give dynamic leadership to board staff and community.
  8. Proven record of leading and aligning teams to a clearly articulated vision, mission, and strategic plan, which advance a cohesive, positive, and productive culture.
  9. Ability to analyze complex information and to define and solve problems.
  • Passionate commitment to the YMCA mission, member engagement, and the YMCA character values.
  • Must have visual, physical, and auditory ability to act swiftly in emergency situations.
  • Professional demeanor and proven supervisory skills in hiring, training, evaluating, and motivating staff and volunteers and developing an effective staff team.
  • Proven experience with fundraising/financial development work greater than $25,000 with an emphasis on major gifts and community campaign.

Essential Functions

  1. To provide leadership to the branch’s membership, health & wellness, youth development, youth sports, and aquatics departments. Provide staff with the tools and direction they need to reach the branch’s goals in new member acquisition, member retention, and program development.
  2. Establish membership retention and development goals that correspond with Association goals and are in tune with the community climate.
  3. Champion diversity and inclusion initiatives through staff cultivation and community engagement.
  4. Develop and monitor with department staff budgets that are aggressive yet realistic, allowing the YMCA to serve the community in the largest possible way.
  5. Provide day-to-day leadership throughout the branch ensuring all member, volunteer, and staff needs are being met and that the YMCA’s assets are protected and in good working order at all times.
  6. Recruit, Engage and Develop a minimum of 12 Branch Board Members, including development and guidance of committee structure and work charts.
  7. Provide strong recruitment, development, and succession planning processes to ensure high-quality staff hiring, professional development, and retention.
  8. Ensures that all the policies of the organization are implemented, including Financial, Human Resources, and Program Policies.
  9. Ensures that department directors maintain current certifications, training, and performance evaluations for staff.
  • Work with department directors to develop annual performance goals and objectives aligned with approved departmental budgets.
  • Serves as Branch Annual Campaign Director and exceeds annual branch goal.
  • Participates on Association Services committees, service delivery teams, or other committees as requested.
