Assistant Program Director- Ombudsman Program

Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE), a non-profit law firm that provides free, high quality legal assistance to people living in poverty in western Ohio, seeks an Assistant Program Director for ABLE’s Ombudsman program. The position will be based out of ABLE’s Toledo office.

The Assistant Director will partner with the Director of the Regional Long-Term Care Ombudsman program to help oversee ABLE’s Ombudsman program. The Assistant Director will manage the intake line for 17 counties spanning Ombudsman Program Regions 3 and 4 while also providing core Ombudsman services. The Assistant Director should be certified as an Ombudsman Specialist with at least 3 years’ experience, with a commitment to obtaining certification as a Program Director within the first year of employment.

The Assistant Director will also support our volunteer program, provide community education, and systemic advocacy related to long-term care.

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in a field related to aging and long-term care issues, such as social work, nursing home administration, counseling, pre-law or any other related field. Must pass a criminal background check and complete a Conflict-of-Interest screening through the Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman within six months of hire. Must possess a valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance. Candidates should have excellent communication and strong conflict resolution skills, along with a demonstrated commitment to advocacy on behalf of consumers of long-term care services.  Computer proficiency along with daily travel in Northwest Ohio required.
