Interested in joining an established non-profit organization that has served the community for over 100 years? The Construction/Accessibility Assistant will provide general labor support to carpenters in the Home Accessibility program. This includes installation, repair and removal of aluminum/wooden wheelchair ramps, low-rise steps, grab-bars and handrails, and other accessibility projects in consumer homes. These accessible modifications do more than just improve safety; your work will help to provide continued access to friends, family, and other community relationships.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Uses various tools and equipment to assist with accessibility project installation.
  • Uses hand tools to dig and shape ground in preparation for placement of ramp sections.
  • Loads and unloads vehicles and trailers to and from work sites.
  • Cleans work areas and equipment to maintain a clean and safe jobsite.
  • Drives to work site location using company vehicle.
  • Completes work logs and project notes.
  • Demonstrates welcoming and positive attitude toward the needs, abilities, and rights of persons with disabilities.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated general labor/carpentry experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated use of power equipment/hand tools preferred.
  • Computer experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to successfully complete an FBI/BCI background check, physical exam, and motor vehicle report.

Essential Physical Demands: Work performed while standing for long periods of time. Ability to use hand tools, electric tools, and other equipment necessary to complete tasks. Ability to safely move heavy pieces of equipment, lumber, aluminum pieces from vehicles to work sites. Movement of equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Some lifting requires up to 75 lbs. with assistance. This position frequently communicates with others and may do so in various ways as able.

The work environment includes frequently being outdoors with possible inclement weather including cold and warm temperatures. Will travel to consumer homes and work outside and inside of property depending on the job assignment. The noise level in the work environment is considered moderate.
