As a growing organization, we seek an open-minded, responsible Custodian who is happy to maintain our beautiful facilities, grounds, and classrooms. These spaces get messy due to the exploratory and hands-on nature of our life-enriching classes.

The Custodian is a member of our Properties team.

The 577 Foundation is an experiential education organization thatnurtures innovative ideas and changes to reflect the interests and needs of the community. Over 11,000 people visit 577 annually to take classes, tend gardens, hold meetings, and explore the beautiful grounds.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Carefully cleaning The 577 Foundation buildings

  • Performing the daily/weekly chores, including eliminating trash and recycling, laundry, carpet cleaning, washing windows, and cleaning buildings’ interiors and exteriors.
  • Monitoring and maintaining the inventory of cleaning supplies in all supply areas.
  • Performing monthly Preventative Maintenance (PM) tasks.

Preparing facilities for classes and events.

  • Set up and reset furniture and equipment for classes and programs.
  • Clean facilities after classes and programs.

Monitor and maintain 577’s interior assets

  • Maintain an inventory of interior assets of our community-used buildings, including furniture, decorations, utensils, kitchen supplies, dishes, meeting supplies like easels, AV carts, and equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain assets on loan to The 577 Foundation.

Assist in general maintenance and landscaping of the buildings and grounds.

  • Lead mowing the grounds, working around the busy facility schedule.
  • Assist in general, preventative, and landscape maintenance and repairs assigned by supervisor.
  • Assist with snow removal.
  • Assist in the research and gathering material lists and costs for projects assigned.
  • Assist in the general organization, safety, and cleanliness of workshop.

Assume administrative responsibilities in work area.

  • Establish and maintain a record-keeping system.
  • Maintain good public relations.
  • Meet regularly with supervisor to develop and implement short and long-range plans.
  • Assist the supervisor in the preparation of budgetary requests.
  • Assist in purchasing and monitoring of equipment and supplies.
  • Assist in the development of long-range plans for buildings and grounds.

Function as part of a staff team in sharing the overall responsibilities.

Perform any and all duties assigned.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:

  • Experience in custodial duties and mowing.
  • Knowledge and experience in general electrical, plumbing, painting, and carpentry preferred.
  • Must be able to carry out the physical job requirements involving kneeling, bending, twisting, standing, climb ladders, working outside in all kinds of weather.
  • Experience with organic cleaning supplies and organic growing methods are a plus; at a minimum, must be willing to learn and use these methods.
  • Keen eye for detail.
  • Must work well independently, accept supervision, and function effectively on a team.
  • Ability to take a list of tasks and prioritize them appropriately.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to pleasantly serve the public.

577’S COVID SAFETY FOR STAFF: Leadership and staff at 577 are
committed to upholding high standards of COVID safety and prevention.

DETAILS:

  • Full time, non-exempt, salaried, year-round position. Willing to work some weekends, mornings and evenings depending on the needs of 577’s program schedule.
  • Competitive salary range of $28,000 to $32,000, plus paid time off and benefits (health insurance, generous retirement package, professional development).
