Part-Time Development Director

Position Profile

The Girls on the Run® Development Director must possess a passion for and commitment to improving the lives and opportunities of girls in third through eighth grades.  The Girls on the Run program provides a safe and interactive way to learn about healthy living which includes an introduction and education on important topics such as goal-setting, cooperation, healthy decision-making, and self-respect, while training for a 5K event.   The innovative curriculum teaches girls to listen and open up while also encouraging them to commit to a healthy lifestyle, and harness the inner strength that they possess.  Our important mission is accomplished by giving girls the tools to make positive choices for a healthy body and mind, while reducing the many risks they face today.

The Development Director reports to the Girls on the Run Executive Director. The Development Director is responsible for development and revenue goals via grant writing, foundation and prospect research, donor cultivation and stewardship, event planning and implementation and database management. This is a part-time, hourly position which averages 20 hours per week, with some weeks less and others more during peak times of the organization. 

Duties of the Development Director include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Support and partner with the Executive Director and Board members on all major fundraising initiatives
  • Develop and implement annual fundraising plan
  • Research, identify and cultivate potential prospects including individual donors, corporate sponsors, in-kind donors, and leadership gift prospects; ensure thorough follow-up reporting and stewardship of prospects
  • Solicit and steward donors through targeted appeals and campaigns.
  • Coordinate with planning committees to develop and execute fundraising and cultivation events
  • Maintain and monitor donor relationship management database
  • Market and promote the SoleMates program by recruiting new members and fostering them through the process
  • Assist with development of marketing materials including a social media campaign for fundraising purposes
  • Participate in outreach efforts
  • Prepare fundraising reports for Board meetings; assist with annual report
  • Act as staff liaison to the Development Committee

Required Qualifications

  • BA or BS degree
  • Passion for Girls on the Run mission and the ability to comprehend and effectively communicate issues surrounding empowerment, self-esteem, body image and whole-person health
  • Prior experience with fundraising
  • Outstanding communication skills in multiple environments and with a range of audiences
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and make efficient decisions
  • Flexible and adaptable

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Girls on the Run (or other similar youth or wellness programs)
  • Non-profit management experience
  • Grant writing experience
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors
  • Connections to the local community
