POSITION SUMMARY:

The Development Office Director is responsible to work with the Chief Development Officer, all Development Department staff, Branch Executives, and Program Leaders to develop/support strategies and systems that maintain donor data that are critical to the success of the Association’s Philanthropic efforts:

  • Increased income from individual donors, high-net-worth donors, foundations and corporations
  • Increased new and existing relationships with all supporters
  • Continued development of donor-portfolio data collection systems, maintenance and training of others to use those systems

The Development Office Director must be comfortable working across the full spectrum of cultivation and stewardship reflecting best practices in the field of philanthropy.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required.

  • Must have strong computer proficiencies: Ability to use a computer in order to effectively perform job duties including word processing, research, and budgeting. Strong knowledge of Word, Excel, Google docs, and ability to learn and work proficiently within various databases and other programs.
  • Analytical thinking and the ability to strategically develop solutions to problems.
  • Versatility, flexibility and a willingness to work enthusiastically within constantly changing priorities.
  • Strong inter-personal communication skills in order to coordinate activities and to work effectively with staff and volunteers.
  • Positive attitude and high energy toward change; it is essential to maintain clear, open and honest communication with Chief Development Officer, other Development Department staff, and donors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Donor Communication

Responsible for maintaining and auditing systems as related to philanthropic efforts across the entire YMCA of Greater Toledo Association. This will require oversite with consistent messaging, branding, and personnel changes.

Specific communication pieces include but not limited to:

  • Thank you letters, tax gift receipts, and pledge acknowledgements
  • Invoicing and billing
  • Pledge Card printing
  • Direct mail pieces and email blasts
  • Invitations to meetings and events (ie: Heritage Club and For Your Y)
  • Regular communication to branch staff answering specific donor and campaign questions

Strategic Problem Solving

Will provide lead in the identification of issues through to the development and implementation of the necessary solution. Areas of focus will be on:

  • Donor Perfect Reporting capabilities and dashboard
  • Sounding Board for Development Department staff as we implement new and increased efficiencies with existing tasks
  • Development of management reports with Chief Development Officer

Analytical Thinking

  • Organizational skills for managing office and flow of information
  • Supervisory tasks
  • Data Specialist
  • Data Management Assistant
  • Provide necessary support to Director of Development in Grant Writing efforts

Coordinate Multi-Person Tasks

  • Work across the spectrum of cultivation, securing gifts, and stewardship
  • New systems research and update of existing systems related to development and implementation
  • Assist with the Annual Campaign
  • Assist with the Capital Campaign
  • Assist with Year End Campaign
  • Assist with any other campaign/special events as assigned such as the YMCA National Gymnastics Championship Event and the For Your Y Event.

Other Tasks

  • Flexibility, excellent listening skills, patience and adaptability are key to this position as priorities change quickly based on current needs within the association
  • Donor Perfect database systems maintenance and updates
  • Banner program maintenance and updates
  • Assist Chief Development Officer with tasks – keeping important tasks updated and in front of them
  • Special one-time or on-going projects as assigned
