BBB Foundation Director Job Description

The Better Business Bureau Foundation is seeking a Director to operate its various programs. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization organized exclusively for educational and charitable purposes. It currently conducts several BBB programs, including, but not limited to:

  • The “In Pursuit of Ethics” (IPoE) training program,
  • The BBB Torch Award Program to salute ethical businesses and charities,
  • The BBB Charity Review Program,
  • The BBB4Good Program, and
  • The School, College, and Consumer Education Programs.

The Foundation Director plans and oversees the various aspects of these programs, with emphasis on the IPoE, BBB4Good, and Torch.

The Foundation Director reports to the BBB President and works with and communicates with the Foundation Board of Directors. S/he arranges all aspects of the Board meetings, which generally occur three to four times each year.

The Director works on a regular basis with various groups to advance the BBB programs. These groups include:

  • BBB Management and staff in both the Toledo and Lima offices.
  • Professional planner(s) working with BBB on events like “Torch.”
  • Business leaders involved in advancing these programs.
  • School and college leaders and teachers to promote Foundation activities.
  • Leadership at the International Association of BBBs, especially in the development of a comprehensive ethics program and the BBB4Good program.

The Foundation Director needs to have a strong work ethic with a high degree of energy. S/he needs to be self-motivated! One aspect of the position is to actively seek funding support from local, regional, and/or national programs. This includes working with other Better Business Bureaus to encourage their subscriptions to the IPoE Program or other programs that may be created. Grant writing experience is a “plus.”

The Foundation is a division of BBB. The Better Business Bureau is a nonprofit 501(c)(6) “Business League” which serves 24 counties of Northwest and West Central Ohio and Southeast Michigan from its offices in Sylvania Township and Lima. The Foundation programs are provided to consumers and businesses throughout this service area and the Foundation Director will actively seek partnerships with other organizations that advance the goals of the Foundation. Programs of the Foundation must also conform to rules of the International Association of BBBs, Arlington, Virginia.

Qualifications include preference of a Bachelor’s Degree and significant experience in nonprofit organization work, especially demonstrated writing and social media skills. Creativity and innovation are strong pluses. The Director will be comfortable working with corporate leadership and media and may be involved in the creation of videos on social media and/or for Foundation programs.

The BBB Foundation currently operates on a modest budget and starting compensation is competitive. The position includes opportunities for bonuses based on success in fundraising. The position includes benefits, to include:
