Director of Alumni Engagement

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

Serves as deputy alumni officer for The University of Toledo (UToledo), with management responsibilities for associate director, assistant director and alumni coordinator positions within the Office of Alumni Engagement.  Assists Associate Vice President (AVP) of Alumni Engagement in the development and execution of The Alumni Association Strategic Plan.  Directs, manages and coordinates all aspects of assigned alumni affiliates, chapters and general alumni engagement activities to include such areas as; budget, comprehensive communication materials, programming/events and volunteer management.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  1. Management oversight of associate director, assistant director, and alumni coordinator positions within the Office of Alumni Engagement.
  2. In conjunction with AVP of Alumni Engagement, establish unit objectives and work plans that align with The Alumni Association Strategic Plan, and assist with development and management of the annual operating budget.
  3. Supervise, mentor and provide professional development for assigned staff.
  4. Independently manage and coordinate all aspects of assigned alumni affiliates, chapters and general alumni activities, which includes, but is not limited to:
    • Prepare and management budgets for each organization and event.
    • Develop and supervise organizational leadership including succession planning for each assigned affiliate and chapter.
    • Generate and implement programming ideas for each organization and/or event.
    • Create and manage the marketing and financing for all functions including print and electronic materials.
  5. Supervise all volunteers involved with assigned affiliates, chapters and general alumni engagement activities.
  6. Collaborate with Development, Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving staff to identify and cultivate potential donors and volunteers and to increase affinity amongst alumni.
  7. In collaboration with the AVP of Alumni Engagement and the Director of Alumni Programming, execute strategies intended to grow annual and lifetime memberships to the Alumni Association.
  8. Solicit and/or renew annual giving support from event attendees when appropriate.
  9. Attend all Alumni Association Board of Trustee meetings as assigned.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Five or more years of professional experience in alumni engagement, marketing, special event planning, public relations, development/fund raising or related field.
  • Must have experience with alumni engagement metrics and the ability to create and measure organizational outcomes.
  • Budgeting experience.
  • Must have the ability to work with and in front of large crowds which includes introducing University administrators and members of the University Board of Trustees.
  • Must have extensive verbal, written and marketing skills.
  • Position involves moderate travel, including nights and weekends, and requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage volunteers.
