Director of Finance

Job Type: Part-time, $40 – $45/hour (based on experience)

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares payments in a timely manner.
  • Processes and posts cash receipts for donations and agency payments.
  • Monitors agency account status and performs collections functions for past due accounts.
  • Complete bank account reconciliations.
  • Administers the payroll system and changes to employee records
  • Manages the integrity of the general ledger information used for financial reporting
  • Evaluates cash flow and anticipates cash needs
  • Oversees monthly accrual and prepaid expense calculations
  • Maintains fixed assets and depreciation records
  • Supervises monthly closing procedures to ensure activity is recorded to general ledger in the proper period for the correct amount
  • Analyzes programmatic costs for internal use and external reporting.
  • Compiles records for annual external audit
  • Develops, implements, and manages a financial reporting system that maintains internal operating controls.
  • Prepares and provides timely and accurate financial reporting for management and Board of Directors.
  • Prepares year-end financials for audit report and collaborates with auditors on completion of IRS 990 filings.
  • Directs annual budget process, develops departmental budgets, and presents annual budget to Board for approval.
  • Analyzes actual revenue & expenses to budget and recommends actions to address variances.
  • Interacts with other managers to provide consultative support to planning initiatives through financial and management information analyses, reports and recommendations.
  • Serves as plan administrator for retirement plan and evaluates annual group health renewals.
  • Assesses potential risk factors and takes appropriate action to mitigate, including maintaining appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Establishes and maintains business relationships with third parties, including bankers, insurance companies, retirement plan providers, investment managers, auditors, payroll providers, and attorneys.
  • Coordinates activities and reporting for external reporting, recognition & certification
  • Identifies and evaluates strategic business opportunities and analyzes the business operations, appropriateness and reliability of proposed business opportunity.
  • Participates in succession management and related projects as necessary.
  • Leads special projects as requested.
  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with team members and Board members.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting required
  • Certified Public Accountant license preferred
  • Minimum of three years of experience in accounting/finance including experience with financial planning and reporting, annual audits, and cash management. Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Prior experience as an active member of leadership team that collaborates with Board and subcommittees.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various integrated inventory management, payroll, and budgeting software and GAAP
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Excellent demonstrated computer proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and Outlook. Strong verbal, non-verbal written, analytical and persuasive skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to interact with Board members.
