Grants and Contracts Accountant
Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE), a non-profit law firm that provides free, high quality legal assistance to people with low income in western Ohio, seeks a Grants and Contracts Accountant to provide accounting and financial services for ABLE and its partner Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO). The position will report to the Director of Finance and will be located in the Toledo office.
The Grants and Contracts Accountant will:
Prepare grant reports, invoices and budget information in compliance with grant requirements. She/he will maintain custody of grant files and ensure they are maintained in a well-organized and retrievable manner. The Grants and Contracts Accountant will meet with auditors and monitors to review and reconcile grant reports. She/he will prepare necessary schedules and assist auditors conducting audits of ABLE and LAWO financial records. The Grants and Contracts Accountant will be responsible for subgrant monitoring as necessary and will perform other duties as requested by the Director of Finance.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred
- Grant financial management experience preferred but not required
- Experience with MIP accounting software helpful but not required
- Ability to work independently on assigned projects required
- Strong attention to detail required
- Excellent organizational skills and capacity to meet deadlines in a multi-function office environment required
- Experience in data entry in computerized accounting system required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel, Word and Outlook required
- Honest, dependable, competent, trustworthy, and have a commitment to legal services and the mission of ABLE and LAWO
- Demonstrate and maintain high standards of interpersonal communication, especially relating to effective telephone communication and effective written and oral communication
- Must be able to exercise sound judgment and initiative and adhere to the confidential nature of the firm and its practice
- Must fully understand the sensitive and confidential aspects of internal and external communication issues.
