Position Summary:

The Community Director is responsible for the implementation, integration, alignment and coordination of the Wayman Palmer YMCA Community Center HUB.

The Director leads the coordination of the majority of activities, programs and supplemental services implemented at the Wayman Palmer YMCA site, which may include morning, afternoon, evening and weekend activities.  This position often requires hours outside the traditional work day for programs and services inside the center and also outreach throughout the community.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

Candidates should possess a 4-year college degree in a related field (e.g. social work, education, community health, youth development, recreation, etc.) and at least 3-5 years of related experience in youth development, community development, or family service.

This position requires excellent organizational and management skills including training, evaluation, data management, computer skills, written and oral communication and experience in fund/resource development. Current First Aid and CPR certification is required.

Strong interpersonal skills are necessary, including networking, grassroots community organizing, teambuilding and collaborative leadership. Experience in working with a wide range of professions, backgrounds and both paid staff and volunteers is desirable. Must have proven skills in relating to families and the community at large. Must have an understanding of and experience with multicultural and diverse populations, as well as a strong understanding of people living in poverty and working from a cultural competency and the asset based model.

Understanding and working knowledge of the inner city community assets and organizations within Wayman Palmer YMCA Community neighborhood and Greater Toledo is desired. Ability to be flexible in your work schedule is expected.

 

Primary Activities:

  1. Communicate/coordinate with the Center Executive weekly to plan and move the strategy forward and share work schedule regularly.
  2. Facilitate communication and broker relationships with existing and potential partners, key stakeholders, and volunteers that lead to programming, services, and opportunities that are responsive to identified assets and needs.
  3. Coordinate a menu of needs-driven, high-quality programs and services (community engagement process and assets/needs assessments), including, but not limited to: health and well-being, family and community engagement, and academic success.
  4. Delivers excellent service to all members, guests, and program participants. Applies all YMCA policies/procedures dealing with member services and facility monitoring.
  5. Develop, maintain, and update agreements for all partners and programs annually, including outcome measured against shared goals.
  6. Manage standardized tools and processes for Hub strategy to capture program partners’ enrollment, attendance, schedule and identified alignment within Hub priorities.
  7. Recruit and convene a community based leadership and governance team to meet bi-monthly. This team serves as a coordinating body that is led by the Director and may be comprised of support staff, community members, partners, parents and others to identify needs, set priorities and coordinate a community based strategy.
  8. Conduct bi-annual comprehensive needs assessment utilizing the community survey.  The assessment engages multiple stakeholders in the neighborhood that fosters a wide-ranging understanding of the neighborhood’s opportunities and risks.
  9. Utilize and implement all tools, processes, and resources provided by United Way Greater Toledo (UWGT) and the YMCA for the growth and development of the community.
  10. Provide coordination of programming for students, families and the community members during extended daily hours and year long.
  11. Participate in capacity-building activities, YMCA/Community offered trainings, meetings and events across the community.
  12. Participate in neighborhood based meetings and events connected to community strategy.
  13. Participate in monthly Director meetings, ongoing trainings and technical assistance activities coordinated by UWGT and the YMCA.
  14. Assist in grant-seeking and other fund development activities including: YMCA Annual Campaign, planning and development of application processes, grant-writing and training and/or technical assistance in outcome measurement reporting.
  15. Coordinate the collection of data and prepare and provide timely submission of reports and information to the YMCA and UWGT. Maintain up to date records for all programs.
  16. Assist with membership policies/procedures of YMCA members and cultivate relationships with them.
  17. Complete all other tasks deemed necessary as assigned by the Center Executive.
