SUMMARY
The Toledo Museum of Art seeks a dynamic and collaborative, mission-driven fundraiser, who brings a strategic approach and entrepreneurial spirit, to serve as a major gift officer for both corporate and individual giving. The Museum is strongly committed to a donor-centered approach in developing relationships that help advance the institution’s mission.
Under the direction of the Director of Development, the Individual and Corporate Senior Development Officer will understand the mission, needs, and value proposition of the Museum and build relationships with prospective donors to increase philanthropic support to propel the Museum’s work. The role is best suited to a candidate with experience in building relationships and excitement to contribute to a culture of quality and belonging for the twenty-first century Museum.
The Individual and Corporate Senior Development is responsible for securing funds for the organization by managing a group of assigned donors, assuring that as many as possible are retained as continuing donors to the organization and are upgraded in their giving and involvement. Activities include writing effective proposals and impact reporting, prospecting, the design and execution of cultivation and solicitation strategies, and moving prospects effectively through the solicitation cycle. Success will be guided by annual metrics such as number of monthly meetings, number of solicitations and gift commitments, and dollars raised.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Qualifies and manages a caseload of donors, including both corporate and individual donors. Individual caseload will be focused on developing a pipeline for major gift solicitation.
  • Manages program and exhibition sponsorships, including solicitation, communication between departments, and benefits fulfillment and stewardship.
  • Creates individual goals for each person or organization in their caseload based on the donor’s history of giving and the Museum’s knowledge of that donor’s potential.
  • Creates a plan for each donor that will serve as a foundational communication and marketing plan for each person on the caseload. Executes that plan, in a timely manner, so that individuals are retained and upgraded.
  • Assists other staff in drafting of proposals and stewardship reporting as needed.
  • Creates monthly reports, as required by management, that accurately reflect caseload activity and performance.
  • Creates fundraising proposals, project summaries and impact reports, stewardship communications and other written collateral in support of fundraising efforts for internal and external audiences.
  • Manages the execution of fund and gift agreements with donors to ensure proper recording of those within the Development database and the Museum.
  • Follows up cultivation activities with appropriate gift solicitation, reporting, and stewardship of donors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
RELATIONSHIPS
Reports directly to the Director of Development, while working closely with the other members of the Development team. Works cross-functionally with other Museum areas, to include Finance, Learning and Interpretation, Curatorial and Collections, Marketing and Communications, and Belonging and Community Engagement.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 5-7+ years’ experience in non-profit fundraising, development, or related field required
  • Experience in a fundraising office with an understanding of donor cultivation and solicitation required
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES, AND ABILITIES
  • Effective communication skills, particularly in drafting written communications, proposals, impact reporting, and other donor communications.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
  • Experience with donor database, such as Raiser’s Edge, or similar systems a plus.
  • Ability to research, collect, organizes, and analyze data.
  • Acts with integrity and maintains confidentiality in all matters.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Standard open office work environment shared with co-workers, with related phone, computer and printer noise.  Position requires ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, printer and phone system; ability to lift 35 pounds and to remain standing or walking for extended periods; hours may include some evenings and weekends as necessary.
