Overview

Imagination Station, Toledo’s Science Center is the region’s resource in interactive Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education.   We offer a mind on, body on, hands on experience with hundreds of interactive exhibits, activities and demonstrations that teach vital science concepts. The science center is a hub of learning that provides the tools necessary to thrive in the 21st century and that shapes future scientists and innovators. We represent the idea that the sciences are more than theorems or formulas on a page, but are powerful concepts that can allow a wide-eyed child to ride a bike across a high wire and learn about where they get their energy.

Description

The Marketing Director develops and executes a complex, integrated marketing plan, which supports the goals of driving science center’s attendance and admission revenue and advancing the museum’s brand.

Working in close partnership with the Leadership team and Board of Directors, this leader will be a catalyst for innovation, creating plans for new communication efforts and strategies for the future of the science center. This director will lead a data-driven team that manages advertising, including creative development and media buying; social media strategy and content creation; email strategy for members and visitors; and partnership development.

The role is responsible for paid admission revenue goals, as well as a commitment to cultivating a visitorship that represents the city of Toledo and Northwest Ohio.   This is a full – time Leadership position.

Responsibilities

Leads a team that develops an integrated advertising plan, including both digital and offline campaigns and drives a significant amount of revenue for the science center’s operating budget.

Sets email and social media strategy, related to attendance, mission, community and inclusion.

Collaborates across science center teams and with outside agencies to develop creative that aligns with the science center’s brand and mission.

Act as a role model to drive initiatives, support the organizational mission, vision, and short and long-term strategies

Represents the science center as spokesperson in typical and crisis situations.

Regularly reports on science center attendance and demographic trends, and applies learnings to marketing campaigns Develops and coordinates ongoing publicity and media relations strategy to present a positive, professional and consistent image to science center stakeholders, the industry and the general public.

Owns marketing analytics and results, creates custom reporting and data visualizations, and applies learnings to optimize channels

Conducts final editing of all science center publications for style, content and grammar and certifies that these are ready for printing and other media venues.

Participates in all Leadership team activities and serves as a key external leader, especially to community leaders, Board members, partners and stakeholders.

Requirements

Must have 5+ years of progressively responsible marketing experience with a proven track record of implementation and revenue generation. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams, to lead and mentor talented staff, and to build consensus across departments.

Must be a strategic and creative thinker with the ability to lead a team in developing new ideas, approaches and methods that enhance our marketing initiatives.

Public relations and communications experience in a complex business environment that serves donors, government, schools, corporations, teachers, parents, students, general public and internal stakeholders.

Expert knowledge of Google Analytics and experience distilling large data sets to reach actionable conclusions.

Strong eye for visual communications; interest in marketing trends and innovation

Exceptional interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

Desire to work in a mission-driven organization committed to equity, inclusion and education.

Excellent organizational and management skills to manage multiple competing priorities. Work is complete, accurate and deadline focused.

Multi-tasking and prioritization; finding ways to improve processes to handle workload.
