Operations & Maintenance Assistant

Salary: $9.00HR – $13.50HR

The Thomas M. Wernert Center (TMWC) is looking for an Operations & Maintenance Assistant to work on building and campus maintenance, ensuring that facilities are clean and in good operating condition. Position includes cleaning building and rooms, performing general maintenance and repair of building, grounds, and equipment. Must be able to perform physical activity, including lifting heavy objects, shoveling, and sweeping.

This position is 20 hours per week.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists in building and campus maintenance including general repairs to building and washing windows, light fixtures, and other areas.
  • Landscaping, pulling weeds, cleaning up flower beds, watering flower beds and grass
  • Move furniture and delivery items when needed
  • Vacuum, dust, sweep, damp mop, and wet mop office floors, toilets, corridors, lobbies, and other assigned floor areas between scheduled cleanings as needed.
  • Clean bathroom facilities, including washbasins, mirrors, and doors.
  • Sweeping sidewalks and snow removal from sidewalks during hours of operation
  • Observes safety and environmental health precautions as directed.
  • Puts up safety warnings for wet floors or other areas for limited access during cleaning.
  • Sorts refuse for recycling, Empties waste basket and disposes of refuse.
  • Ensures building operations are run efficiently, timely, and safely by implementing
    new safety policies and procedures
  • Maintains relationships with building vendors
  • Assist with monitoring security during hours of operations

 Experience, Educational Qualifications and Abilities

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Willingness to work as needed in emergency situations, hours may vary
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Personal or lived experience with mental illness preferred
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal
  • Valid driver’s license preferred
  • Valid First Aid, CPR and CPI certification preferred or must obtain upon hire
