Artist Services Manager, Part-Time

General Summary  

Plan, develop, coordinate and manage the implementation of Artist Services at the direction of the Artist Services Committee.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

ACCELERATOR GRANTS

  • Manage Accelerator Grant program, including call for applications, review committee meetings, recipient communications, agreements, payment and reporting.
  • Build and coordinate community partnerships to carry out program goals.
  • Develop, implement and summarize program evaluation. 
  • Continually gather feedback around local artist needs, informing program evolution.
  • Collaborate with Marketing Manager to communicate program impact.

MERIT AWARDS

  • Manage Merit Award program, including call for applications, review committee meetings, recipient communications, agreements, payment and reporting.
  • Build and coordinate community partnerships to carry out program goals.
  • Develop, implement and summarize program evaluation. 
  • Collaborate with Marketing Marketing to communicate program impact.

CREATIVE CAPACITY PROGRAM

  • Connect artists with community resources and contacts in support of their artistic goals through the Creative Capacity program
  • Research and design professional capacity workshop and training options, considering other community offerings.
  • Create professional development opportunities for artists that encompass a range of opportunities across the spectrum of Arts Commission programming.
  • Coordinate logistics and host workshop and training options.
  • Continually gather feedback around local artist needs, informing program evolution.

OTHER ARTIST SERVICES

  • Develop and implement individual artist engagement strategies based on community needs and artist feedback. 
  • Develop and implement strategies to connect artists with the Art Loop, creative placemaking, and other Arts Commission programs.
  • Receive and address inquiries from artists and community regarding resources available.
  • Recommend strategies that meet identified needs of Toledo’s artist community and which grow their skills, capacity, and the opportunities available to them.

ADVOCACY / PROFESSIONAL RESOURCE

  • Support other Arts Commission staff in implementation of the Toledo Strategic Plan for Arts and Culture
  • Network with individuals and organizations supporting creative entrepreneurs and small businesses, as a means to advance community support of artists as part of the creative sector
  • Serve as a professional resource with TAC volunteers, artists, businesses and government communities.
  • Represent TAC at public meetings and special events, including serving as The Arts Commission’s representative on the board of the Toledo Federation of Arts Societies (TFAS).

BUDGET MANAGEMENT

  • Recommend, manage, and monitor program budgets.

ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND MARKETING

  • Attend Board and staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge about all Arts Commission programs and be ready to advocate for The Arts Commission at any time.
  • Support organizational fundraising efforts, including events, building new donor relationships, assuring appropriate sponsor recognition, providing documentation for all in-kind contributions to development staff, and providing a monthly listing of new contacts, along with contact information for inclusion in the organizational database.
  • Support all program committees to ensure cross-program integration, and appropriate program planning and goals attainment 
  • Participate in development of grant applications.
  • Assure statistical and narrative tracking systems are in place to support grant and organizational reporting requirements.
  • Assure organizational marketing, logo, and branding guidelines are implemented in program materials.
  • Work to assure that all organizational funds raised and expended are activated cost-effectively and with the greatest impact possible and in compliance with established policies and procedures and legal requirements.

Impact on the Organization 

  • Directly responsible for documentation of program impact on professional careers of local artists. 
  • Influences fairness and accessibility of grant application process and review.
  • Influences the development of initiatives and builds connections to resources and partners in supporting artists in their professional growth.

Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in Art, Art History, Architecture, Urban Planning, Design, Public Administration or other related field. 
  • A combination of education, training or relevant experience may be substituted for the Bachelor Degree. 
  • Experience in the public or non-profit sector preferred.

Communication and/or other skills:

  • Knowledge of community cultural environment, artists, art, and art organizations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of sound fiscal policy and budget management
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a team
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Must be proficient in the use of Apple and Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office, and Google Apps.
  • Ability to meet program and project deadlines
  • Ability to collect, analyze and report data
  • Ability to work well with all types of people
  • Ability to be creative and flexible
  • Ability to lead volunteers, committee members, community stakeholders, and fellow staff members during challenging situations
  • Ability to coordinate, manage and direct in the appropriate circumstance
  • Ability to exercise independence and sound judgment in decision-making
  • Ability to provide training and oversight to volunteers and staff as may be required
