What does the Director of Nursing do?
- The Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall efficient, effective planning and operations of healthcare services in accordance with current federal, state, and local regulations.
- Implement processes and operations ensuring quality of life for Sisters, completion of assessments, administration of medication, development/implementation of treatment plans.
- The Director of Nursing will adopt and enforce rules and regulations concerning health care/safety, acts as an advocate for the Sisters.
- Manage staff schedule, ensuring all shifts are filled and schedule is communicated in advance and changes communicated timely.
- Leads educational initiatives for staff and Sisters (i.e., monthly in-service training for healthcare staff, health education 4-6 times annually for Sisters, etc.).
- Accompany Sisters to healthcare appointments; is present at hospital/medical facility for major surgeries or other significant procedures.
- The Director of Nursing will develop, implement, and maintain consistent application of personnel policies of SND USA.
- Prepare annual budget with financial accountability, monitors, and manages expenses.
- Collaborate with Facilities and Food Services related to Sisters’ healthcare needs.
- Coordinate with Human Resources related to employees (i.e., hiring/onboarding new staff; performance; performance review process, job description development, etc.).
- The Director of Nursing will maintain on-going communication with Provincial Leadership, meeting regularly with Provincial Councilor.
- Maintain accurate and detailed healthcare records for Sisters.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in health care administration or related field required.
- 10+ years nursing experience; 5+ years as Director of Nursing experience in a long-term care environment.
- Registered Nurse with a current and valid Ohio nursing license.
- Strong knowledge of laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to long-term care facilities.
- Outstanding leadership skills; ability to mentor staff in a motivating and positive manner.
- Demonstrates personal qualities of compassion, patience, and stress management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with people of all backgrounds and situations (i.e., Sisters, healthcare staff, SND leadership, medical professionals, etc.).
- Strong computer skills (i.e., MS Office).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- A valid driver’s license is required, and the Director must be willing and able to drive Sisters to appointments, etc.
