Position Title:  Teen Coordinator

Position Location: West Toledo YMCA

Position:  Full Time Hourly (35-40 Hours Per Week)

Pay Rate:  $13.00-$14.00 per hour

Position Description:

Under the supervision of the Association Teen Achievers Director the Teen Coordinator is responsible for assisting in Teen Achievers Program delivery as well as developing relationships with the youth at the West Toledo Y by providing: general mentoring and supervision as well as formal and informal programming. Within the Teen Achievers Program, Teen Coordinator will be responsible for helping in assisting in tutoring, Life skills, work readiness, field trips, mentoring and other components of the program. Must be able to work well with all members in a positive and consistent manner. Must be reliable, responsible, confident, authoritative and able to use good judgment to make correct decisions regarding building operations. Hours will be primarily afternoons into evenings and some weekends. Must have current CPR and First Aid certification, or receive within ninety days.

 

Position requirements:

  • High School or GED Graduate.  Some college preferred.  Prior experience working with at-risk teens highly recommended.
  • Must possess the necessary organizational skills to supervise, lead, coordinate, facilitate and design activities and programs.
  • Must possess good public relation skills and have the ability to establish and maintain effective communication with youth, parents, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Must have a good driving record.

 

Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in recruitment and enrollment for Teen Achievers Participants
  • Assist in coordinating weekly and monthly program activities.
  • Follow-up with and re-engage inactive participants.
  • Participate in all required Achiever events and meetings.
  • Work to build healthy relationships with the participants and parents.
  • Supervise and monitor Achiever participants during all activities.
  • Work with community agencies to provide services to teens and families.
  • Consistently monitor participant’s academic progress.
  • Assist the Achievers Director to research, plan, develop and implement academic, work readiness, career and life skill activities with an emphasis on values education and increases in quality of life resources.
  • Perform other duties deemed necessary for the promotion of the YMCA, Achievers Program and the success of the programs.
  • Must be is creative, energetic, and flexible and know how to have fun.
  • Be knowledgeable of all YMCA policies, procedure, programs and membership information.
  • Be visible to the members, dressing appropriately with nametag, and answer any questions or concerns in a friendly and positive manner, consistent with values of Caring, Respect, Responsibility and Honesty.
  • Work as a team member with other employees.
  • Assist Customer Service Desk staff, when needed, in performing tasks such as checking membership cards and answering the telephone.
  • Attend to any incidents, accidents or disciplinary issues that may arise in a quick, thorough and fair manner. Assist members with their needs.
  • Do a periodic walk-though of the entire facility, including parking lot and locker rooms.
  • Monitor fitness center for under age use when fitness center staff is unavailable.
  • Helps setup or tear down for special events.
  • Report any unusual incidents or accidents to your supervisor, and complete detailed incident/accident reports as needed.
  • Participate in the Annual Campaign.
  • When closing, make sure all external doors are locked and all members have left the building safely. Do not leave until members and staff has left the grounds. Make staff leave in pairs when closing.
