Essential Job Description:
 

The Café Coordinator is responsible for cooking regularly and engaging with volunteers, guests, and individuals or organizations who donate produce to SAME Cafe. The Café Coordinator will lead groups of volunteers through Café projects, maintain data regarding produce donations, and assist in collecting community feedback through the Toledo Board of Directors. This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to adapt to the needs of our many diverse volunteers and guests. 

Prior kitchen experience is required.

In this position you will often be required to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods of time, bend, reach, go up and down steps, and work in extreme temperatures, and work with the other staff to deescalate guests and volunteers. 

 

Kitchen Duties:

  • Ensure compliance with all Health Department and SAME health and safety standards
  • Assists the Executive Chef in planning and preparing the daily menu
  • Cook 1-2 days a week, or as needed
  • Orient volunteers in Café safety standards
  • Assists in all daily set up, food prep, cleaning, and closing 
  • Prep and store product orders and donations in a timely manner
  • Assist in monitoring Café cleanliness, food levels, and suitability of volunteers to participate
  • Occasional evening, catering shifts, and off site events required
  • Other duties as assigned

Café Duties

  • Responsible for entering donated produce data from farms and individual growers 
  • Assists in the coordination of volunteer exchange guests and front and back of house pre-scheduled volunteers, including assignments, paperwork, and waivers 
  • Assists the Café Manager in recruiting, training, and onboarding daily volunteers
  • Orient volunteers in Café safety standards
  • Ensure end of day tasks are completed and record money with a staff member or volunteer
  • Open and close the cafe in the absence of a manager
  • Other duties as assigned

Administrative Duties

  • Assist Cafe Manager in sending quarterly thank you notes to farmers and volunteers
  • Assist in promoting SAME Cafe through social media by taking photos, contributing story ideas, and highlighting farms and gardens when produce is donated
  • Other duties as assigned

Cook to Work Program

  • Work with other staff to train participants in the C2W modules
  • Work with other staff to oversee and guide participants through modules
  • Work with other staff to record hours and report data to Executive Director
  • Other duties as assigned
