Salary Range:  $36,000 – $42,000

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

Under the direction of District Vice President, and in accordance with Association policies, the Association Aquatics Trainer is responsible for the leadership and advancement of the Aquatics training program for the YMCA of Greater Toledo as well as the management and supervision of the Sylvania YMCA/JCC Outdoor pool.  This position will be accountable for the development and implementation of Association wide in-service trainings, lifeguard certification trainings, swim instructor trainings, CPR/First Aid trainings and the outdoor pool operation at the Sylvania YMCA/JCC. The Association Aquatics Trainer will work closely with Aquatics Directors to ensure safe operations of all aquatic programming, staff training.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

The Association Aquatics Trainer must possess a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent education/experience, with a minimum of 3-5 years of successful program development and management experience in an aquatics environment.  The incumbent will have a high level of knowledge and demonstrated competence in the areas of aquatics programming.   Appropriate aquatic certifications are required.  He/she should have a positive history of leadership in the areas of staff, volunteer and program development, fiscal budgeting and management, and operational procedures.   Team Leader Certification preferred.  Proven ability to display initiative, good judgment and ability to make decisions independently.  Able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills; public speaking, capacity to prepare reports, conduct training programs, create policies and guidelines, proven financial development experience and skills.  Will possess competent computer skills in the Windows environment as well as the YMCAs operating software.

ESSENTIALS FUNCTIONS

  • Schedule and conduct regular trainings to certify lifeguards in YMCA Lifeguarding as needed by the Association.
  • Schedule and conduct regular trainings to certify swim instructors.
  • Schedule and conduct regular trainings in CPR/First Aid as needed by the Association.
  • Ensure all documentation for trainings and safety are completed.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays based upon the needs of the YMCA.
  • Will ensure data within the Y-Improvement model is accurate and up to date.
  • Ensure that aquatic safety audits are performed regularly for all YMCA of Greater Toledo branches.
  • Assist in the implementation of aquatics staff in-service programs by providing direction, leadership, support, and efficiencies for team members through strategic planning, administrative standardization, registration, quality standards, and risk management according to the YMCA of Greater Toledo’s Aquatics Standards.
  • Oversees the safe operation of the Sylvania YMCA/JCC Outdoor Pool.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Monitors daily Sylvania YMCA/JCC outdoor pool operations to adhere to all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations as well as current ADA guidelines.   Working with the leadership at the branch to ensure proper maintenance of pools is taking place.
  • Act as a mentor to the Aquatics staff in the areas of programming, leadership, and staff development.  Ensures staff are trained and prepared to achieve the desired program outcomes.
  • Develops and monitors department budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Maintain all Association standards and guidelines while ensuring that updated documentation is met and available at all times.
  • Participates as a member of the aquatics cabinet program management team meetings
  • Have an active role and assist in the Annual Campaign.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

The employee frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.  Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility.  Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
