Qualifications
To work as a Behavioral Technician at Sunshine, you must have a strong interest in mental health and providing engagement and care to Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.

  • Associates Degree required, Bachelors degree preferred
  • 4 years of experience working directly with behaviors
  • 2 years of experience in a direct care capacity
  • 2 years of experience with creating or following a behavior plan
  • Experience and/or education in mental health, or experience with individuals with challenging behaviors required
  • Valid Driver’s License, good driving record and Auto Insurance
  • Pass criminal background, drug screen and physical & able to lift 60 lbs.

Job Details:

Provides behavior intervention and positive focused supports to individuals with behavioral and learning challenges. Responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide one on one engagement, behavior support and personal care.
  • Support during Sunshine events or other outings and appointments.
  • Consistently implement all aspects of the Individual Plans (ISP/IP/BSP), while functioning as a Behavior Technician in various sites.
  • Maintain and communicate up to date information on changes with individual’s health, behavior and needs and/or changes in their BSPs.
  • Accurately record behavior and program data and any other required agency documentation, including ICM, IR, Screenings, Clinic notes, Helpdesk and BSPs.
  • Maintains regular communication with interdisciplinary team regarding an individual’s progress or barriers encountered with prescribed interventions.
  • Attend IPs, IEPs, BSP and Interdisciplinary meetings involving those assigned to your caseload.
  • Uses active treatment and prescribed protocols to help stabilize individuals with severe challenging behaviors and teach alternative replacement barriers. Coach fellow DSPs and other Sunshine staff on these treatments and protocols as needed.
  • Develop effective engagement strategies and supports.
  • Attends required trainings that pertain to the individuals on their caseload as required, including becoming a Certified Trainer for Ukeru.
  • Attend house meetings and provide training and education to house staff. Trainings may include: how to document, restrictive measures, protocols, engagement strategies, behavior support, communication styles, use of picture stories or use of devices.
  • Utilize community resources to help build social skills and abilities of the individuals we support.
  • Performs other regular duties of a Behavior Technician as needed and all other duties assigned by the Behavior Support Manager and Behavior Support Supervisor. Follow all agency procedures.

These services are offered in various circumstances including at our Maumee, Ohio campus and at homes within the community. In addition to programs on campus, Sunshine individuals and staff operate Georgettes Grounds and Gifts, a coffee shop and fair trade gift store located in downtown Maumee. Right across the road lies Sunshine Studios, an art studio space and gift store offering classes to individuals and the community.
