Community Outreach Coordinator (part time) at Girls on the Run of Northwest Ohio
The Community Outreach Coordinator is responsible for engaging key audiences through communications, marketing and program initiatives. This position reports to the Executive Director and works collaboratively with program staff to ensure alignment of efforts with program strategy. As a part of a 5-person team, this position will also directly support program delivery during the peak season.
Girls on the Run of Northwest Ohio is a local nonprofit organization that operates in agreement with Girls on the Run International and is dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Our program currently serves 14 counties in Northwest Ohio including over 40 sites, 800 girls per year, and 175 coaches.
Girls on the Run believes that all girls and communities should have access to our programs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Communications and Marketing (60%)
- Develop and implement an annual marketing plan that includes social media, website maintenance, monthly newsletters and other communications and aims to both steward existing audiences and engage new and diverse audiences.
- Market program options to a wide and diverse range of participants including direct marketing.
- Maintain and curate up-to-date and compelling communications files by downloading and personalizing Girls on the Run International templates. Organize local photos and anecdotes to support storytelling activities.
- Collaborate with Executive Director to enhance public awareness of GOTR’s presence, mission, and activities.
- Provide consistent communication with local media to encourage coverage of Girls on the Run events and programs.
Community Engagement and Coach Recruitment (15%)
- Work with the Program Director and Volunteer Coordinator to develop and strengthen relationships with diverse community organizations, colleges and universities, faith-based organizations, running groups, women’s groups, employee resource groups, and other stakeholders to ensure a sense of belonging and broaden volunteer involvement with Girls on the Run.
- Schedule and attend volunteer info meetings at various locations to recruit volunteer coaches.
Program and General Team Responsibilities (25%)
- Support program delivery during peak seasons, including (but not limited to) ordering and distributing curriculum materials, maintaining inventory and coordinating volunteer background checks.
- Visiting and supporting afterschool Girls on the Run practices.
- Support the biannual celebratory 5k runs.
- Support coach training.
- Attend Girls on the Run International trainings.
- A commitment to using the opportunities of this position to make Girls on the Run a more Inclusive, Diverse, Equitable and Accessible organization.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualities and Qualifications:
- Passion for Girls on the Run mission and the ability to comprehend and effectively communicate issues surrounding empowerment, self-esteem, body image and whole-person health.
- Outstanding communication skills in multiple environments and with a range of audiences (internal and external).
- Experience with project management.
- Experience developing content and managing social media preferred.
- Access to reliable transportation.
- Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite and/or graphic design preferred.
A successful Community Outreach Coordinator:

- Is self-driven and has excellent time management skills
This position offers a compensation range of $20-23 hourly, depending on experience. This position is 20 hours per week and is currently hybrid (remote and in-person) with specific in-person tasks required and for the most part a flexible schedule. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Vacation blackout periods due to program and event schedule may apply.
