Community Outreach Specialist

The Community Outreach Specialist plays a key role in the Marketing and Outreach department, facilitating the promotion of programs and services to the community. Responsibilities include providing support for general communication needs such as community presentations, outreach event attendance, and facility tours. Additionally, this position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and scheduling both internal and external activities and events.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead special initiatives to bolster community engagement that align with our mission.
  • Engage in outreach opportunities, information booths, guest speaking, and presentations for diverse audiences.
  • Coordinate all internal and external events within our service area.
  • Coordinate on-site tour logistics for potential partners, service providers, and donors.
  • Coordinate and communicate with third-party fundraisers, providing necessary resources and support.
  • Serve as a liaison with community partners, schools, agencies, and groups.
  • Serve as a liaison between The Auxiliary members and The Ability Center.
  • Develop PowerPoint presentations independently or with support from other Ability Center staff.
  • Maintain a comprehensive outreach calendar for recurring events and engagements.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of programs, sponsorship, partnership, and engagement strategies.
  • Provide clear and concise resources and information to individuals interested in The Ability Center.
  • Flexibility to manage community outreach activities outside regular business hours.
  • Efficiently plan, schedule, and organize outreach content and materials, and prepare informational packets.
  • Manage inventory and assist with tracking, organizing, and ordering outreach materials.
  • Update and maintain documentation and track outreach activities using Salesforce.
  • Must have reliable transportation with the ability to travel independently in our service area.

Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • Ideal candidates will possess prior experience in a non-profit organization, with a focus on community relations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in spelling and grammar.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint, is required.
  • Candidates must have experience in public speaking with additional training experience being advantageous.
  • The ideal candidate should demonstrate a personable and professional demeanor.
  • Strong project management abilities are essential, with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • A self-motivated individual with keen attention to detail and a constructive approach to teamwork is sought.

Essential Physical Demands: The employee may occasionally move within the office to access supplies, filing cabinets, desks, computers, etc. Frequent movement may occur between office spaces and buildings. The employee may handle office items/equipment weighing up to 25 pounds and may operate a personal or company-owned vehicle.
