Beach House Inc., dba Leading Families Home is a 501(c)3 charity serving the Toledo area community for nearly 100 years. We provide resources to support homeless families as they transition to permanent housing. Our Mission is helping families transition from homelessness to permanent housing with the Vision of building a better future for our community by providing life-changing resources. Leading Families Home serves over 1,000 individuals annually, including children.

Our environment is challenging and collaborative. You will have the opportunity to work with individuals dedicated to making a positive impact in our participant’s lives and our community funded by a variety of sources including complex government grants. We are seeking a Full-Time Controller. The position is responsible for budgeting, timely production of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, maintenance of the accounting system and comprehensive controls,  grant management and administration, grant set-up, grant analysis, supervision of accounting staff, insure compliance with GAAP and funder requirements, risk mitigation.

Experience: 3-5 years accounting experience with grant administration and accounting management in a nonprofit/fund accounting environment. Must have grant administration/management experience. Experience leading/managing accounting staff. Advanced Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Microsoft Teams skills. Knowledge of Great Plains software a plus.

 Education: Bachelors Degree in Accounting or related subject.

 Duties:

  • Daily administration and management of established, new and proposed grants
  • Comprehend, evaluate, review, manage grant allocations, grant documentation, grant draw requests within grant deadline parameters
  • Supervision of accounting/payables staff
  • Prepare annual budget for board approval
  • Oversee production of monthly, quarterly, annual financial statements. Review and analyze financial statements and submit to Executive Director
  • Monthly, quarterly, annual variance analysis (actual to budget, actual to prior year, etc.)
  • Prepare for and coordinate audits
  • Establish grants in accounting systems
  • Provide supervision of daily accounting functions in accordance to GAAP
  • Provide oversight of compliance with grantors, local, state, and federal regulations and laws

 Essential Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensure grant draws are processed and submitted promptly and in compliance with the grant
  • Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Oversee operations of accounting department, including design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives
  • Ensure accounts payable are paid timely and in accordance with internal policy
  • Ensure revenue from all sources is processed and posted promptly
  • Ensure bank reconciliations are completed accurately and timely
  • Ensure required debt payments are made on a timely basis
  • Maintain chart of accounts
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
  • Issue timely and complete financial statements
  • Coordinate preparation of annual report/audit
  • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure performance of organization operations
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
  • Provide for a system of management cost/expense reports by program/department
  • Provide financial analyses as needed
  • Meet department/organization goals with minimal supervision

 Requirements:

  • Requires minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or business administration from an accredited college or university.
  • Must have relevant grant management and administration experience in a non-profit environment
  • CPA or CMA preferred
  • Must have valid Driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and deemed insurable
