Director of Advancement Communications

The University of Toledo Foundation:

The University of Toledo Foundation, an independent 501(c)3 organization, exists for the sole purpose of supporting The University of Toledo. The Foundation is the official gift-receiving and fund-management organization for the University. Our purpose is to support the University’s broad educational mission by receiving, managing, and distributing generous gifts to benefit students and enhance faculty and program efforts. The Foundation includes the Development, Alumni Relations and Special Event functions. Through its subsidiary, the UT Real Estate Corp., the Foundation also manages off campus real estate matters for the University. The Foundation embraces the mission of The University of Toledo by aspiring to be a forward-thinking, philanthropic organization, providing impactful financial support and engagement opportunities for transformation throughout the University community.

Director of Advancement Communications:

Responsible for developing and implementing a marketing and communications plan to increase audience engagement and philanthropic support for The University of Toledo Foundation.

Specific Duties:

The following duties reflect management’s assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

  • Communications and Marketing StrategyDevelop and implement a marketing and communications strategy that furthers the Foundation’s brand awareness, increases engagement and philanthropic support across all audiences and fundraising channels.
  • Content Management and Editorial DirectionResponsible for editorial direction of all Foundation publications and donor communication efforts; Build relationships with key communicators, staff, alumni and stakeholders to gain an understanding of the stories, messages and needs of the Foundation and UToledo to procure engaging and impactful content.
  • Audience Engagement – Develop suite of measurable outcomes and reports to monitor success of Advancement Communications to assess content performance and inform decision-making.
  • Brand Adherence – Ensure that all communication and marketing materials align with UToledo’s brand standards and guidelines including appearance, tone and messaging.
  • Management Manage and mentor direct reports; keep on top of current trends in marketing, communications, content management & social media; Serve as subject matter expert/technical advisor to management and staff with regard to best practices in the area of Advancement Communications; Oversee the day-to-day operations of Advancement Communications.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, business or related discipline. 5+ yrs experience in designing and executing managing marketing & communications to advance an organization’s mission. Professional experience in development or higher education preferred. Exceptional writing, editing and story-telling skills. High proficiency in project management, attention to detail, prioritization of work and organizational skills. High competence in computer programs, web-based content management systems and social media platforms. Previous supervisory experience preferred.

  • Held accountable for timely creation and delivery of quality donor communications, content and graphics through a variety of mediums; Assisting in the development of external communications plans that create brand awareness.
