Director of Development Job Description

 

Summary

This position is primarily responsible for working with individual donors to secure philanthropic support for the activities of the Toledo Alliance for the Performing Arts, home of the Toledo Symphony and Toledo Ballet. This role includes identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors and prospects, including leadership annual giving, major giving, and planned giving opportunities. This position reports to TAPA’s Vice President of Development.

 

Duties

  1. Identification, discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of leadership annual giving, major giving, and planned giving donors.
  2. Leadership in outreach to new prospects, including individual, corporate, and institutional donors.
  3. Management of a donor and prospect portfolio, including regular visits and communication.
  4. Assist with the development and implementation of a comprehensive planned giving outreach plan supporting all TAPA operations and departments.
  5. Assist with ongoing stewardship of current Kobacker Society members.
  6. Maintain accurate records of donor outreach in development database, including proposals, contact reports, etc.
  7. Design and implementation of donor stewardship events and communications as needed.
  8. Regular attendance and visibility at performances and events as needed for donor engagement and stewardship.
  9. Other duties as assigned to further TAPA’s mission and goals.

 

Skills and Qualifications

  1. Strong interpersonal skills. Experience working with individual donors to solicit and close gifts preferred.
  2. Excellent writing and communication skills.
  3. Strong overall computer skills, including experience working with donor database programs. Knowledge of Blackbaud’s eTapestry preferred.
  4. Experience with Microsoft Office products and related software. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
  5. Experience with basic graphic design a plus.
  6. Strong attention to detail required.
  7. Previous nonprofit fundraising experience required.
  8. Commitment to working in a team-centered environment and dedication to TAPA’s mission.
  9. Commitment to the Association of Fundraising Professionals Code of Ethics and the Donor Bill of Rights.
