Good Grief of NW Ohio provides peer support groups for children ages 4-thru Young Adult and adult caregivers who are grieving the death of someone important to them.

The program coordinator is responsible for coordinating and expanding school-based support groups.  20 hours per week with occasional night and weekend – if needed.

Program Coordinator
Reports To:  Managing Director

Position Summary:

Responsible for coordination and oversight of Good Grief of Northwest Ohio’s in-school peer support groups, ensuring quality and consistency. Assists Program Manager as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working with school counselors or social workers, coordinates and facilitates school-based grief support programs.
    • Coordinates school-based support group outreach plan
      • Contacts schools to share GGNWO information and resources
      • Meets with school counselors to determine the feasibility of school-based support groups in their school.
      • Assures all appropriate agreements and information forms are completed prior to the first group session
      • Collects and maintains data files for each school group.
      • Provides outreach to schools in crisis, offering support as needed and appropriate.
  • Assists Program Manager:
    • With effective communication and planning with volunteers.
    • Providing information about new families, family updates, and other announcements to volunteer facilitators.
    • Giving direction, support, or coaching to volunteer facilitators as needed.
    • Ensuring all set-up and clean-up work is completed, and all meeting supplies are available and replenished as needed.
    • Ensures child safety policies, emergency procedures, and building safety policies are followed by all staff and volunteers.
  • When requested, support in-house program efforts such as family intake appointments.
  • Assists in making presentations to community groups, teachers, physicians, and others about Good Grief and children’s grief issues.
  • Attends Program Committee meetings.
  • Meets regularly with the Program Manager and Managing Director.
  • Assists with obtaining photos, family stories, and other information to help support fundraising and educational outreach efforts.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or related field.

Experience:  Grief or bereavement support, experience with art and/or play therapies, experience working with children and teens, especially in a school setting.

Working Conditions:  Part-time (20 Hours/Week,) local travel required.
