Prospect Research Analyst

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

The Prospect Research Analyst provides in-depth research and reports on donors and potential prospects, including individuals, corporations and foundations, to support UToledo fundraising efforts. As a member of the Advancement Services team, the Prospect Research Analyst plays an integral role in both the administration of prospect management processes and the management of related data.

This position reports to the director of Prospect Research and provides research and data support to the director, including event briefings, spreadsheet reports, and systems data and record upkeep.

This position is based in Toledo, OH. Hybrid or remote work arrangements are available for qualified candidates.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Research and analyze, synthesize, and summarize biographical, professional, financial and organizational information on potential prospects and donors.
  • Prepare detailed, accurate research profiles and briefings on prospects and/or groups of prospects for development staff and senior leadership.
  • Record, organize and maintain constituent, prospect and solicitation data information in the CRM.
  • Actively participate in prospect review meetings
  • Assist the director of Advancement Services and director of Prospect Research with various prospect management tasks, including (but not limited to) prospect coding, tracking, status monitoring, reporting, and the review of prospect data.
  • Assist the director with list creation, analysis and support prospect management reporting.
  • Mine internal databases, external publications, online resources to identify and qualify major gift prospects
  • Independently monitor new research trends and techniques and support regular evaluation of research tools and products, and make recommendations on new resources as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Gift Processing, IT and other departments in database integrity efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject.
  • 2-3 years of directly related professional experience, preferably in nonprofit prospect research, prospect management, development and/or information management in a higher education environment.
  • Experience investigating, researching, analyzing and synthesizing large quantities of information in a concise format.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with various prospect research resources, databases, and tools, including LexisNexis, iWave, and other tools and resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to capture, analyze and synthesize data from a wide variety of sources, including complex financial documents, and present the resulting information in a clear summary.
  • Must be curious, self-motivated, focused, and persistent in the pursuit of information.
  • Knowledge and understanding of philanthropy and standard fundraising practices.
  • Ability to organize and manage a diverse range of assignments and projects with high efficiency, yet thorough attention to detail and timely follow-through.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated competence in a variety of computer applications, including donor databases, Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word; preferred experience importing and exporting data from relational databases.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and communicate appropriately to stakeholders.
  • Strengths in anticipating and seeking out information related to the immediate priorities of development, and other staff as appropriate.
  • Ability to work independently and be an active, participating team member of the advancement services team, the development program, and organization as a whole.
  • Self-starter with the ability to adjust to changing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to respond effectively to high-pressure situations.
  • Interest and self-motivated in staying abreast of changes in the field of prospect research and making recommendations based upon both best practices and new, innovative ideas for improving the prospect and moves management system.
