GENERAL FUNCTION

Under the direction of the Branch Executive Director, and in accordance with Association policies, the Wellness Director is responsible for the leadership and advancement of the strategies for the Branch’s Wellness Department.  This position will oversee the development and implementation of innovative curriculum and activities, supervise, guide and develop staff to ensure that participant’s development occurs in a fun, healthy and safe environment, and ensure program outcomes are consistently achieved.  This position will also work together with the Membership Director to provide services and outreach to the branch’s Partners in Healthy Living.

 

KNOW HOW

The Wellness Director must possess 3 – 5 years’ experience in group exercise program development and management as well as personal training and fitness center management. Current Group Ex. and Personal Training certifications preferred. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience would be preferred but not necessary.  The incumbent will have a high level of knowledge and demonstrated competence in the areas of Group Exercise and Wellness.  He/she should have a positive history of leadership in the areas of staff, program development, fiscal budgeting and management, and operational procedures. Proven ability to display initiative, good judgment and ability to make decisions independently is required.  Able to demonstrate written and verbal communication skills; public speaking, capacity to prepare reports, conduct training programs, create policies and guidelines, proven financial development experience and skills.  Will possess competent computer skills. If not certified willing and able to get PCR/First Aid certified within 90 days and Group Ex. and/or personal training certified within 120 days of hire.

 

JOB SEGMENTS

  1. Ensures that daily care of members and families is a key priority through direct supervision of Group Ex. instructors and the wellness coordinator. The wellness coordinator oversees the fitness center staff, the personal training program as well as MX4 (small group interval training program). Director must have strong leadership and knowledge in all Wellness/Group Ex. areas is required. Lead department in accordance with the organization policies, mission and applicable laws
  2. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining Group Ex. instructors as well as the wellness coordinator; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  3. Responsible for oversight of the Silver Sneakers Fitness, Group Ex. & Wellness Department programs, implementation of all West Toledo Y and YMCA of Greater Toledo association Silver Sneaker, Group Ex and Wellness initiatives including growing the Group Ex. MOSSA partnership
  4. Lead all Group Exercise and Fitness Center programming by providing direction, leadership, support, and efficiencies for team members through strategic planning, administrative standardization, registration, quality standards, and risk management.
  5. Understands and fully participates in the Y-Improvement model for his/her branch as well as any assigned Association initiatives. Will ensure data within the Y-Improvement model is accurate and up to date.  Will be accountable for meeting or exceeding target conditions related to his/her areas of responsibility.
  6. Lead activities, external programs, staffing and follow annual standards that achieve outcomes, which are reviewed and verified through audits, surveys and follow-up.
  7. Collaborates with Branch Leadership and staff to ensure excellence and consistency in service through daily care of members, program participants and volunteers.
  8. Champion program curriculums, development, staffing and set annual standards that achieve programmatic outcomes and are reviewed and verified through audits, surveys, and on-site visits.
  9. Act as a mentor to the Department staff. Ensures staff are trained and prepared to achieve the desired program outcomes.
  1. Along with the branch’s Membership Director, will develop, implement, and monitor strategies for the achievement of goals related to Partners in Healthy Living and SMART START new member welcoming program.
  • Responsible for strict adherence to and annually reviews all Group Ex., Personal Training, MX4 and Wellness Department program policies and procedures related to safety and conduct rules and other regulations; current CPR, First Aid, First Responder training.
  • Role Model strong fiscal stewardship through developing, monitoring and forecasting budgets.
  • Requires flexible hours to work as manager on duty for evenings and weekends
  • Any other duties as assigned by Branch Executive Director.
